(Norwalk, Conn.) On December 2nd, 2022, the City of Norwalk announced that it received notification from the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CT DOT) that two scheduled state road work events impacting traffic will take place from Sunday, December 4th – Thursday, December 8th, 2022. The first will occur from December 4th – December 5th and close the I-95 south bound ramp at Exit 16. The second will follow and take place from December 6th – December 8th, involving alternating one way traffic on East Avenue between Olmstead Place and Hendricks Avenue. These road projects aim to improve the center median on I-95 to enhance the State’s storm drainage system and provide this section of I-95, between Exit 16 and 17, with a new highway messaging signage.
From December 4th – December 5th, the closure of the I-95 south bound at Exit 16 will include a traffic detour between 8:00 PM - 6:00 AM. The detour will redirect anyone traveling from East Avenue heading south bound on I-95 to Exit 16 on ramp to I-95 north bound. Then the detour will continue to Exit 17, where traffic will be detoured back on I-95 south bound on ramp at Exit 17. The detour is meant to reduce traffic on city streets by keeping traffic on state roads and will conclude on December 5th.
From December 6th – December 8th, CT DOT will initiate alternating one way traffic on East Avenue between Olmstead Place and Hendricks Avenue. This road requires the reduction of travel lanes on East Avenue to alternating one way traffic between 8:00 PM - 6:00 AM.
