The City of Norwalk's 2022 Dog Licensing Renewal will begin Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 1

(Norwalk, Conn.) Today, May 31, 2022, the Norwalk Town Clerk’s Office announced that 2022 dog license renewals will be available beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, June 1, 2022.  State law mandates that all dogs over six months of age be licensed in the municipality in which they reside and must wear the tag on a collar around their neck.

Dog owners may renew their pet's license online, by mail, by using the Town Clerk Drop Box located outside of Town Hall or in person by coming to the Town Clerk’s Office. Residents can find the dog license form that they need to fill out at

This is the first year the City of Norwalk is participating in an online renewal system. If residents plan to submit the form online, they can do so by visiting If residents plan to mail in the form, they can address it to Norwalk Town Clerk 125 East Ave Norwalk, CT 06856.  They should also include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for their return mail.

If residents plan to utilize the Town Clerk Drop Box option, the Town Clerk’s Office asks individuals to please follow the "renewal through US mail" instructions and clearly write "Town Clerk" on the outside of the envelope before putting it into the Drop Box.

All current registered dog owners will be receiving renewal notices in the mail or via email. The Town Clerk’s Office encourages those who don’t see the notice in their email to check their junk or spam folders, in case it lands there.

If a dog has not been registered before, a neutering or spaying certificate must also be presented for the first time when registering, if the dog has been altered.

Per Connecticut State Statute 22-349: All dogs must be licensed by the City. Owners of unlicensed dogs could be subject to a $75.00 fine.

Once you register your dog, the 2022 license will be valid from July 1, 2022, until June 30, 2023.  Fees for neutered and spayed dogs are $8.00, and the fees for unneutered and unsprayed dogs are $19.00.  In July, the fees increase by $1.00 and each month thereafter, another $1.00 is added to the original fee.  If expired, a current rabies certificate signed by a veterinarian must be presented to the office to comply with state law. The State of Connecticut has canceled all Rabies Clinics held by the Towns this year due to Covid-19.
