City of Norwalk Employee Notice

Posted on: March 13, 2017

[ARCHIVED] Update: City Hall CLOSED on Tuesday March 14, 2017

Message from the Mayor’s office:

Good afternoon.

We realize everyone is monitoring the forecast for the approaching Nor’easter and we wanted to provide an update for staff. Although there is some difference in amounts of snow expected and the timing of the snow/rain line, this has the potential to be a significant storm with high winds, power outages and minor/moderate coastal flooding.

  • The City’s Emergency Management team met this morning to discuss the storm and provide updates on their preparedness activities. City Departments as well as our partners are checking generators, fueling vehicles and scheduling additional staff. Should power outages become an issue, the disaster shelter will be opened and staff, volunteers and supplies are on stand-by.
  • A Citywide snow emergency will be in effect starting at 4:00p. Most municipalities in the area, have also declared snow emergencies.
  • The 3 power companies that serve the City are also actively preparing and will be in communication with the DPW and the EOC.
  • Norwalk Transit will be closed Tuesday March 14th. Currently no updates on changes to MetroNorth.
  • The City’s website and social media sites will be updated today and during the storm. A Citywide CodeRed message was sent to residents today.
  • All Municipal buildings will be closed Tuesday March 14th. We will use the City’s website as well as the Warnable app to provide an update. Norwalk Public Schools have announced their closure earlier today.
  • Safety for all employees and your families is a priority. Please take time tonight, to make sure you’re prepared for severe weather. For tips and resources to help you prepare, visit: www.ready.gov. If you have kids at home, they can visit www.ready.gov/kids for games and activities.
