Cost Structure Information


Many permit fees are based on construction cost estimates. All values of construction costs will be based on labor and material calculations. These calculations will be determined by the Building and Code Enforcement Department. For additional information, contact the department at (203) 854-7755. (updated 2-1-2021)
 

Building Permit Fees


  • Commercial building permit:

    $20 plus $0.26 State Education Fee per every $1,000 spent on labor and materials (minimum of $100)  $50 Certificate of Occupancy fee  Pools, Roofs/Siding - see above.
  • Residential building permit:

    $18 plus $0.26 State Education Fee 
     per every $1,000 spent on labor and materials (minimum of $150)  $25 Certificate of Occupancy fee  Pools, Roofs/Siding - see above.
  • State education building permit:

    $0.26 per $1,000 spent (commercial or residential)
  

Electrical, Plumbing, & HVAC Permits Fees


  • Residential:

    Those not included in building permit fees are $18, plus an education fee of $0.26 for every $1,000 spent (minimum $100)
    Compliance Letter $25
  • Commercial:

    Those not included in building permit fees are $20, plus an education fee of $0.26 for every $1,000 spent (minimum $150)

Penalties & Off-Hour Inspection Rates

 
  • Weekend and off-hour inspections:

    $250 per inspector
  • Work started before issuance of permits:

    (per building official approval only) results in a minimum fine of $500 and a maximum fine of $1,000

    $20 (minimum sign permit fee of $100)
