Crystal Theatre presents “Hungarian Nights” with special guests from Budapest, the Liget Dance Ensemble

The gothic, romantic musical “Hungarian Nights” will be presented with an international cast in the USA (August 4th & 5th) as well as in Budapest, Hungary (August 19th)

Norwalk, CT August 4 & 5, 2017:  Non-profit performing arts school, Crystal Theatre, will be hosting 22 student dancers from the Liget Dance Ensemble (Hungary’s #1 Youth Folk Dance Ensemble) as part of an artistic and cultural international exchange program this July and August.  Together, they will perform Mariner Pezza and Cheryl Kemeny’s original gothic musical Hungarian Nights at Crystal Theatre Performing Arts Center at Ben Franklin Center, 66 Bayview Avenue, So. Norwalk, 06854, on Friday and Saturday, August  4 & 5, 2017 @ 7:30PM. The American cast will feature a group of Crystal Theatre performers--high-school and college—from all over Fairfield County in the acting and singing leads. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and children and can be purchased online at our web-site, www.crystaltheatre.org.   The show is appropriate for ages 11 and above. The Liget Dance Ensemble will also present a separate concert and dance party of authentic Hungarian folk dances at the theater on Sunday, July 30th @ 3PM.  Tickets for this event are $15 at the door.

Passion and longing erupt in the Hungarian night when the re-incarnated wife of Count Dráco (Ilona) returns to save his soul from eternal damnation. He had succumbed to the dark powers 500 years early when his wife died in a horse-riding accident.  The Prince of Darkness turned him into a vampire and he has searched for her through the aether since, in hopes that they may spend eternal life together.  Can Ilona succeed in convincing him to repent or will she be overcome by the sin of loving too much? Sucked into the swirling events are a band of gypsies, a sweet Hungarian peasant girl and an unsuspecting Hungarian-American cousin who has come to Hungarian seeking to hire gypsy dancers and riders for his employer’s (Buffalo Bill Cody) new show.  The 22 Hungarian Liget Ensemble dancers will add incredible excitement and authenticity to this show, first produced in 2010 and later at the New York Musical Festival (2012) as a staged reading with an all-star Broadway cast.
