Accepted Household Hazardous Waste


Household hazardous waste includes items from the following common household areas and will be accepted during specified hazardous waste collection days.

  • Garage: Gasoline, auto care products, oil-based paints or alkyd paints, stains, thinners, spray paints, etc.
  • Garden: Insect killer weed killer, fungicides (rose dust), chemical fertilizers, garden lime, etc.
  • Household: Cleaners, polishes, mercury thermometers, pet care products, pool chemicals, etc.

Items that will not be accepted during specified hazardous waste collection days include:
  • Ammunition / Flares or Explosives: Contact the Norwalk Police Department at (203) 854-3000 for information on how to properly discard these items
  • Asbestos: Contact the Connecticut Department of Public Health
  • Medical or Biological Waste
  • Radioactive Waste
  • CLFs or Fluorescent Light Bulbs: Unbroken Bulbs can be disposed at Home Depot or Lowes
  • Cooking oil - Norwalk Residents ONLY - Please bring to Transfer Station
  • Electronics: Norwalk Residents ONLY - Please bring to the Transfer Station
  • Used Motor Oil or Antifreeze: Norwalk Residents ONLY - Please bring to the Transfer Station (Fees may apply)
  • Batteries: Norwalk Residents ONLY - Please bring to the Transfer Station (Fees may apply)
